The Pride of Life…
Humility is the only true wisdom by which we prepare our minds for all the possible changes of life. ~ George Arliss ~
Take pride in what you do but be careful not to allow a proud spirit to prevent you from achieving that which we all should strive for, a change of heart and character. We are never too wise, that we can’t learn from others, nor too good to perform any given task in service to another. True honor, as well as the ability to cope with the many changes life brings is derived from a humble spirit.
Thought for the day
God is blessing me as I put days together and experience physical sobriety but how am I really doing with recovery? How’s my pride, the enemy of humility? The steps tell me time and time again that I need to work on my humility yet I seem to concentrate on my behavior, what to do and not to do. When will I begin to pray for and concentrate on becoming humble, this most desirable and necessary state of being?
The reward of humility and the reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord is riches and honor and life. A man’s pride will bring him low, but he who is of a humble spirit will obtain honor. ~Proverbs 22:4,29:23 (Amp)~
And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted. ~Jesus (Matthew 23:12)~
But He gives us more and more grace (power of the Holy Spirit, to meet this evil tendency and all others fully). That is why He says, God sets Himself against the proud and haughty, but gives grace (continually) to the lowly (those who are humble enough to receive it). Humble yourselves [feeling very insignificant] in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you [He will lift you up and make your lives significant]. ~James 4:6,10 (Amp)~
