Isn’t it time?
You don’t run twenty-six miles at five minutes a mile on good looks and a secret recipe. ~ Frank Shorter ~
In order to accomplish anything worthwhile, adequate preparation is required. The better prepared that you are, the more likely that you will achieve your objectives, and meet with success. One of the biggest mistakes made in bold endeavors, is attempting to do things before the proper time has been taken to prepare the way. Always remember…days of preparation are never wasted days!
Thought for the day
With all the evidence pointing to the need for preparation before taking on a project, a goal, or working towards an ideal, why is it that we addicts remain so self centered, slothful and stubborn as to think we can tackle the business of recovery on our own terms. We do not want to rely on wise counsel. We want to do what we think is best for us.
Well, don’t forget; our best thinking got us into this mess in the first place!
Over and over we hear from the wise about making at least a couple of meetings per week, about reading recovery materials, about the need for prayer, service work, meditation, intimacy with our brothers and working the steps; all things required to live life on life’s terms. Yet, what do we do? We default to the easier softer way and slowly over time (sometimes weeks, sometimes months) we become an “at leaster”. At least I didn’t do this… Through the Twelve Steps your Heavenly Father has opened the front doors for you to enter life and live in glory and in communion with Him. Are you prepared to do the work required to walk in or will you try to sneak in the back way?
[Put first things first.] Prepare your work outside and get it ready for yourself in the field; and afterward build your house and establish a home. ~Proverbs 24:27
For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him. Thou meetest him that rejoiceth and worketh righteousness, those that remember thee in thy ways…But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand. ~Isaiah 64:4,5,8~
Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning; Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not. Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath. And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. ~Jesus (Luke 12:35,40,43,44,47)~
