24-04: How Irritating…

How Irritating…

Quote
Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves. ~Carl Jung~

Meditation
Rather than dwelling on the actions or habits of others that really bother us, it would be far more profitable to examine what it is in us that causes us to   respond so negatively in the first place.   Oftentimes, the origin of why something is so annoying to us is more unbecoming than the object of our disdain itself.  Much understanding of one’s own heart and motivations can be gained from such an inward assessment.

Thought for the day
An emotional and spiritual assessment is the essence of the daily inventory; to recognize in us the reasons for our misbehaving and our critical nature. Let’s lighten up on life, live and let go.

Scripture
“Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults–unless, of course, you want the same treatment. Don’t condemn those who are down; that hardness can boomerang.  Be easy on people; you’ll find life a lot easier.  Give away your life; you’ll find life given back, but not merely given back–given back with bonus and blessing.  Giving, not getting is the way. Generosity begets generosity.”  It’s easy to see a smudge on your neighbor’s face and be oblivious to the ugly sneer on your own.  Do you have the nerve to say, “Let me wash your face for you”, when your own face is distorted by contempt?  It’s this I-know-better-than-you mentality again, playing a holier-than-thou part instead of just living your own part.  Wipe that ugly sneer off your own face and you might be fit to offer a washcloth to your neighbor.
~Luke 6:37,38,41,42 (MSG)~

Prayer
Heavenly Father, can I possibly grow in your likeness while remaining as I am?  I think not, so I ask you to help me today to be less critical of others and help me concentrate on perfecting me, through your grace.
Allow me to know personal freedom today by not allowing me to criticize or judge another human being, for that truly is freedom… from me!  Help me to learn to judge actions only but not my brothers and sisters, for supreme judgment are yours and yours alone.

About SLAA Tilburg
