A Vision of Love…
Love is not blind…it sees more, not less. But because it sees more, it is willing to see less. ~Rabbi Julius Gordon~
In order to truly walk in love, it is often necessary to see beyond the moment…beyond temperaments…beyond the behaviors and actions of those we interact with every day, that can so easily lead us into angry responses and strife. The interesting thing is, the more we strive to respond in love in every circumstance, the more we recognize that not only are the hearts and lives of others changed as a result, but our own most of all.
Thought for the day
Why is it so difficult not to put up our dukes? Why do we, in spite of the fact that we know better, automatically resort to retaliation and defensiveness? Why is it so hard for me to turn the other cheek? If we are beyond step 9 we now should know that there is absolutely zero benefit in allowing poison to seep in to our hearts and close ourselves up. There is a better way and it is the way of Love!
Is it easier to love or to hate? The answer is simple; hate requires nothing, love requires sacrifice, unselfishness, discipline and commitment. Love is not the easier softer way…it is an action word! Are you a true lover?
Jesus answered: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. This is the first and most important commandment. The second most important commandment is like this one. And it is, “Love others as much as you love yourself.” All the Law of Moses and the Books of the Prophets are based on these two commandments. ~Matthew 22:37-40 (CEV)~
Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails…
~1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (NASB)~
Follow God’s example in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love for others, following the example of Christ, who loved you and gave himself as a sacrifice to take away your sins. And God was pleased, because that sacrifice was like sweet perfume to him. ~Ephesians 5:1,2
Heavenly Father, I come to you this morning humbled by my inability to take care of myself and to live in your Peace. Abba, I continue to struggle with self sufficiency, believing that I have to protect myself and defend myself when the arrows of life find me, whether they are fired by strangers or friends. Disguised as confrontations Satan wishes no less than to return me to a state of being that requires me not to live in peace but to embrace discord and live in perennial fear. Father, grant me the peace that the promises speak of, the Peace that transcends all earthly peace and is a prelude to perfect union with you. Let me know your perfect will for me each and every day so that I may be an instrument for you, to be used perfectly to show the goodness and love that resides in you for all your children. While I may play a role in my difficulties with others, help me not to beat myself up but simply acknowledge my part, learn and grow from that admission and resolve to do better in the future. But most importantly Lord, help me not strike back when attacked. It is so easy to hurt others but it is so difficult to love others. If I should encounter someone diseased by selfishness and self centeredness allow me to know personal freedom by not passing judgment on their person, but rather recognizing their situation, help me to be an instrument of love and healing. This I ask in the name above all names, that of your son, My Lord and Savior, Jesus. Amen.
