Forgetting To Remember…
The process of learning requires not only hearing and applying, But also forgetting and then remembering again. ~John Gray~
Oftentimes, in order to see things properly, we must be willing to let go of the preconceived notions, conditioned responses from past experiences, and things which have become indoctrinated into our thought processes. To see with the eye of the Spirit requires forgetting past logic and once again remembering how to have the unquestioning faith of a child.
Thought for the day
I believe the hardest thing to do in recovery is to not continue to be reactive, to learn new ways of dealing with people, places and things. We must train ourselves to slow down, process information differently and look for new ways to analyze that which we believe we need to respond to. Creating and using new pathways and roads in our minds is difficult but we must put those old superhighways of our minds “out of order” so we can stop reacting in the same old defensive and selfish ways to situations that may not require that type of response. To be truly reborn we must truly change and not just stop our addictive behavior!
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
~1 Corinthians 2:12-14~
Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.
~Jesus, Mark 10:15~
Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. ~Philippians 3:13,14~
