Hope That Does Not Disappoint…
Hope is a state of mind, not of the world. Hope, in this deep and powerful sense, is not the same as joy that things are going well, or willingness to invest in enterprises that are obviously heading for success, but rather an ability to work for something because it is good. ~Vaclav Havel ~
Lasting peace and joy do not come from our personal worldly endeavors or our individual business successes. It is in that abiding sense of hope, that comes from deep within, that we are progressing toward something that is good and right…something essentially supernatural in scope, and in which, we know without doubt, that our eternal future is secure.
Thought for the day
As an addict trying to become a godly person do I spend enough time meditating on the spiritual consequences of my actions? Do I believe that my sinfulness is somewhat excused because of my disease or am I able to line up my hopes for eternal life with the fruits of my work. Do I just work to live life in comfort or am I also bearing fruit for God? Do I know that if I am to be in recovery and benefit from the values and principles I have learned I must “give it away to keep it”?
Let not your heart envy sinners, but continue in the reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord all the day long. For surely there is a latter end [a future and a reward], and your hope and expectation shall not be cut off. Hear, my son, and be wise, and direct your mind in the way [of the Lord]. ~Proverbs 23:17-19 (Amp)~
For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome. ~Jeremiah 29:11 (Amp)~
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. ~Romans 5:1-8 (NIV)~
