The Pearl of Great Price…
Price is what you pay. Value is what you get. ~Warren Buffet~
There is always a price to be paid for anything worthwhile. Gain in one area, generally always requires sacrifice in another. Whether it is an expenditure of time, effort, money, selflessness, or simply the act of laying down instilled attitudes and behaviors, there is a price that must be paid. The question becomes, are you willing to pay the required cost, in order to receive something of greater value? If it is something truly worth attaining, keep the ultimate reward always before you, and you will be driven to do whatever it takes to gain it.
Thought for the day
At a recent meeting the topic came up; how can we grow spiritually? The answer is simple. We have to work for it, and work long and hard! We simply cannot expect to act out for 20, 30 or 40 years ignoring God and expect the halo to appear after a year or two of physical sobriety. It just does not work that way. We have to pay the price, and that means sacrificing time to attend accountability meetings, seek spiritual direction, read spiritual books, attend church or temple, be of service, attend more than 1 meeting per week, sometimes 2, 3, 4, or 7. We have to reach out and sponsor newcomers; we have to be sponsored ourselves and most importantly we have to seek others of like mind who will support us in our journey. The fruits of the spirit are available to us for the taking…but they come at a high price. Well worth it! Where are you at in your journey? Are you willing to pay the price?
My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity. Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine. My son, do not despise the LORD’s discipline and do not resent his rebuke, because the LORD disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in. Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who embrace her; those who lay hold of her will be blessed. ~Proverbs 3:1-18 (NIV)~
