Enjoying the Journey…
For a long time it seemed to me that real life was about to begin,
but there was always some obstacle in the way. Something had to be gotten through first, some unfinished business; time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life. ~Bette Howland~
Who among us can ever say that we have truly “arrived”. In this life, there will always be physical, emotional and spiritual challenges to be endured or overcome. However, in gaining victory over each mistake, trial or adversity that we are confronted with, we learn, and grow, and mature, into that which we might become. Learn to enjoy the journey my friend…this one takes a lifetime to complete.
Thought for the day
We are told by our sponsors to stay in the now, to live one day at a time yet sometimes it is important to look at the journey as a whole to understand what our attitude should be about our life in general, our destination. By now all of us should have learned that this is not about the leg of the race but about the finish. It is not about the battles….it is about the war. And yes although it is critical to stay in the now and win as many battles as we can……the end is what really matters. When we are on our death bed will our spouse be there? Will our children? How many friends will attend our funeral? How about co-workers, people we associated with, those we helped because we understood God’s message of love and sacrifice? Have we truly lived life or did we struggle each and everyday because our expectations were so unreasonable?
Am I focused today on my happiness only? Have I learned that life is a serious of battles sometimes to be endured, always with an open heart and the determination to do as God would have us do?
And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailer to keep them safely: Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks. And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed. ~Acts 16:23-26~
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. James 1:2-4
