Example is not the main thing in influencing others. It is the only thing.
Don’t think for a moment that no one is watching, or paying attention to your behavior and actions…they are! Whether it is your children, peers, or others that look to you for direction, whether as a leader, teacher, parent, co-worker or friend, we must always strive to set the proper example. You will be known for the example that you set. Make sure that you are setting the proper one! Don’t be deceived, someone is always watching. In the same vein, we must also be careful of those we look to as an example…as we will indeed emulate those whom we hold in high esteem. Actions will always speak much louder than words.
Thought for the day
Have I experienced enough humiliation, guilt and regret to do something about those behaviors in my life that continue to hound me and portray me as immature? Am I ready to work on those character defects that keep me from being a true example of Christian life? When was the last time I did a serious 4th step, not the regular 10th step, but another meaningful 4th step?
Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God. So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel he had around him…And since I, the Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. How true it is that a servant is not greater than the master. Nor are messengers more important than the one who sends them. You know these things–now do them! That is the path of blessing.
~Jesus / John 13:3-5,14-17 (NLT)~
…but be an example (pattern) for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity. Practice and cultivate and meditate upon these duties; throw yourself wholly into them [as your ministry], so that your progress may be evident to everybody. ~1 Timothy 4:12,15 (Amp)~
