18-09: What a Ride…

What a Ride…

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a
pretty and well preserved body, but rather the plan is to skid in broadside,
thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming — WOW — what a ride!!!

~Author Unknown~

If you believe that the purpose of
life is to lead a quiet, serene, and undisturbed existence, without problem or
perils…think again!  Our faith grows through challenges, and grasping
for that which at times seems unobtainable.  Hope and maturity evolve
through facing trials and overcoming obstacles.  Ultimate peace, joy and
satisfaction are derived in spending ourselves for a worthy cause, knowing that
we have given it everything that we have, without regret, and without looking

Thought for the

Going for the gusto all the while
concentrating on growing spiritually does not mean we should not have fun.  I do not like to see religious people
who are so serious there really is no light in them.  Fun, joy and laughter are the most attractive features of a
face.  Who is not drawn to a hearty
laugh?  There are even Laughing
Clubs today!  Let’s be serious
about our Recovery and our spiritual growth but let’s also be serious about
having fun!  Do not worry about
what others will think of you.
Dance like the three in the fire.
Do you think they were concerned about their captors?  Let’s go out today and smile often and
laugh heartily.  You will be amazed
at the reaction of others…but more importantly feel the joy in your heart!  Laughter, the elixir of long life!

Therefore then, since we are
surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses [who have borne testimony to the
Truth], let us strip off and throw aside every encumbrance (unnecessary weight)
and that sin which so readily (deftly and cleverly) clings to and entangles us,
and let us run with patient endurance and steady and active persistence the
appointed course of the race that is set before us, Looking away [from all that
will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith [giving
the first incentive for our belief] and is also its Finisher [bringing it to
maturity and perfection]. He, for the joy [of obtaining the prize] that was set
before Him, endured the cross, despising and ignoring the shame, and is now
seated at the right hand of the throne of God.  Just think of Him Who
endured from sinners such grievous opposition and bitter hostility against
Himself [reckon up and consider it all in comparison with your trials], so that
you may not grow weary or exhausted, losing heart and relaxing and fainting in
your minds.
~Hebrews 12:1-3 (Amp)~

I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and
confidence.  In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and
frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain,
undaunted]!  For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power
to harm you and have conquered it for you. Jesus / John 16:33 (Amp)~

About SLAA Tilburg
