Until you make peace with who you are, you’ll never be content with what you have. ~Doris Mortman~
Contrary to what many in the world presuppose, the measure of an individuals’ real worth is NOT a function of how many possessions they have, or whatever position they may hold. Either of these can change in a moment’s time. It’s only through a deep and changeless sense of who you are, whatever your outward conditions and circumstances may be, that lasting peace and contentment may be realized. Don’t allow "things" to define who you are, or your sense of self-worth.
Thought for the day
The state of being at peace with oneself can only exist when we realize that our way of living and our actions are mostly in line with God’s will for us. If we are working Steps 4-5-6-7- in all our affairs (that is what our tenth step calls us to do)
and if we are being of service to God and our fellow brothers and sisters we will be in God’s will and therefore at peace with ourselves. It is that easy for us addicts. From there nothing can shake us from our state of being. Why? Because for us the whole secret to living a fulfilling life is recognizing that of ourselves we are nothing, but with God we are everything. Today, right now as you read this, let’s get off our pity throne, stop our navel gazing and walk with our heads up knowing we are committed to loving God and our brothers.
The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace. ~Psalms 29:11~
For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome. Then you will call upon Me, and you will come and pray to Me, and I will hear and heed you. Then you will seek Me, inquire for, and require Me [as a vital necessity] and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.
~Jeremiah 29:11-13 (Amp)~
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. ~Jesus / John 14:26,27~
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. ~Philippians 4:4-7 (NASB)~
Abba, Father, my Lord, I come to you today in full knowledge of my condition. I have only one thing to work on, my separation from you. In my soul and in my heart I know that as long as I have you, everything will be fine. Yet, for so long I have lived an errant life, for so long I have been living in the world by its rules that it is very hard for me to stay on the path to You.
I wish to be humbly righteous and adhere to the principles of love, justice, compassion, unselfishness and generosity yet I struggle daily, sometimes just to get out of bed! Help me each day to put on the armor I will need to battle the Evil one who rules the earth, the One who wishes to steal my soul. Help me to have an attitude of gratitude that will keep me focused on the good things in my life and the benefits of our relationship and your Fatherhood. Help me to stay focused on my brothers’ welfare and one day at a time help me be all I can be for you. And this I ask in the name above all names, your son, my Lord and savior, Jesus. Amen.
