Until one is committed there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative and creation, there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans; that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issue from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would come his way. ~William Murray~
You know the difference between commitment and involvement or participation, right? A man sits down to have his breakfast. In front of him is a plate of ham & eggs. Now…I tell you, the chicken was involved in this man’s breakfast, but the pig…He was committed. And that is the difference between the men who have physical sobriety and recovery and those “at leasters” who relapse and are happy to say; Well, I am a better man today than I was before I came to the program!!!!
Don’t settle. Life is too short, and it’ll be over before you know it. Be a godly person, love God, yourself and others before it is too late. Of course you will have to work, but isn’t that what commitment is about?
Make the commitment…today to act upon those things that you know in your heart you are called to do. Don’t be overly concerned with exactly how everything will come together, or where everything needed may come from. Simply take the first step…and watch the chain reaction that takes place from the commitment…in ways that you may never have initially imagined.
As for me, I would seek God, and inquire of, and require Him, and to God would I commit my cause–Who does great things and unsearchable, marvelous things without number, Who gives rain upon the earth and sends water upon the fields, So that He sets on high those who are lowly, and those who mourn He lifts to safety. He frustrates the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise or anything of [lasting] worth. He catches the [so-called] wise in their own trickiness, and the counsel of the
schemers is brought to a quick end. But God saves [the fatherless] from the sword of their mouth, and the needy from the hand of the mighty. So the poor have hope, and iniquity shuts her mouth. ~Job 5:8-13,15 (Amp.)~
I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will give you mighty inner strength through his Holy Spirit. And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts as you trust in him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God’s marvelous love. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love really is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is so great you will never fully understand it. Then you will be filled with the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now glory be to God! By his mighty power at work within us, he is able to accomplish infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask or hope. May he be given glory in the church and in Christ Jesus forever and ever through endless ages. Amen. ~Ephesians 3:16-20 (NLT)~
Heavenly Father, I know I am slothful and I want a relationship with you like yesterday….but I want it without doing the work! Help me to know and accept that I have to earn my way to a relationship with you. I know that I do not have to earn your love but I do need to work for your respect and intimacy. Give me the courage and determination to seek you and find you. And I know if I resolve to do so, you will not hide from me. And just as the father in the story of the prodigal son, you will come out and meet me at least half way. I want this and I claim this, in the name above all names, in the name of your son Jesus. Amen
