I will study and get ready, and perhaps my chance will come. ~Abraham Lincoln~
In the performance of any task, proper preparation can mean the difference between success and failure. Taking the necessary time to prepare oneself, whether it be physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually, will always pay dividends far greater than the effort expended to be ready when opportunity or trial presents itself. Do not become weary in it, as days of preparation are never wasted days. Many there are that cry out to be used, yet they are unwilling to pay the price to gain that which is required to get the job done.
Thought for the day
Let’s be watchful and prepared for surely the Evil One will come calling when you least expect it. As the Big Book says “there will come a time in our lives when the only defense against another drink (drug, bet, acting out, etc) will be our spiritual condition”. It is a fact waiting to happen! Should we pretend that it will not occur? Or that somehow we will be spared because we are good boys and girls? Or should we get ready and be ready? Knowing this to be an eventuality should we not prepare for action? Should we not encourage our sponsees and ourselves to have a relapse prevention plan? I am not speaking of living in fear or obsessing over something that may or may not happen. I am speaking of preparedness, of practice, of knowing exactly what we shall do when confronted up close and personal by a temptation so subtle yet so powerful that critical action is required to escape unharmed. What will happen when we are out of town, away from our meeting and support network and we meet such a challenge? Let’s us all make sure we have practiced the solution enough that we will know exactly what we are to do in order not to become a relapse statistic. Rest assured that "Ol Scratch" is not just going to let you go and applaud you as you trudge the road to Happy Destiny. Few are those that are spared this major showdown. Why not be ready? We must continue to grow in our spiritual life by continuing to work all the steps as needed. The key word in the 10th step is “Continued”. Be ready and know what to do!
Study and be eager and do your utmost to present yourself to God approved (tested by trial), a workman who has no cause to be ashamed, correctly analyzing and accurately dividing [rightly handling and skillfully teaching] the Word of Truth. ~2 Timothy 2:15 (Amp)~
Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints… ~Ephesians 6:13-18 (NASB)~
