It’s hard to beat a person who never gives up. ~Babe Ruth~
One of the single most important elements to achieving success in any area, is very simply refusing to quit. You may have to carry on long after others have counted you out, or current circumstances appear completely contrary, to see the victory made manifest in your life. Just continue to persevere, and watch what unfolds. So many have given up just when they might have seen the fulfillment of their vision, if only they had continued on just a little while longer.
Thought for the day
You hear in 12 Step meetings all the time, “Keep coming back”, but unfortunately many don’t and those wind up in a state of perpetual nothingness, without the benefit of a purposeful life. How about you? Have you gotten it yet? Are you reconciled to a one day at a time lifetime of spiritual development and growth or are you still fighting it and considering market research in the streets? Miracles occur everyday all over the world in 12 step rooms…but you have to stick around to be one! Are you committed or just involved? Are we in the program or just visiting?
One day Jesus told his disciples a story to illustrate their need for constant prayer and to show them that they must never give up. "There was a judge in a certain city," he said, "who was a godless man with great contempt for everyone. A widow of that city came to him repeatedly, appealing for justice against someone who had harmed her. The judge ignored her for a while, but eventually she wore him out. `I fear neither God nor man,’ he said to himself, `but this woman is driving me crazy. I’m going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!’ " Then the Lord said, "Learn a lesson from this evil judge. Even he rendered a just decision in the end, so don’t you think God will surely give justice to his chosen people who plead with him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will grant justice to them quickly! But when I, the Son of Man, return, how many will I find who have faith?"
~Luke 18:1-8 (NLT)~
Be sincere in your love for others. Hate everything that is evil and hold tight to everything that is good. Love each other as brothers and sisters and honor others more than you do yourself. Never give up. Eagerly follow the Holy Spirit and serve the Lord. Let your hope make you glad. Be patient in time of trouble and never stop praying. Take care of God’s needy people and welcome strangers into your home. Ask God to bless everyone who mistreats you. Ask him to bless them and not to curse them. Don’t let evil defeat you, but defeat evil with good. ~Romans 12:9-14,21 (CEV)~
The Scriptures say, "God commanded light to shine in the dark." Now God is shining in our hearts to let you know that his glory is seen in Jesus Christ. We are like clay jars in which this treasure is stored. The real power comes from God and not from us. We often suffer, but we are never crushed. Even when we don’t know what to do, we never give up. In times of trouble, God is with us, and when we are knocked down, we get up again. ~2 Corinthians 4:6-9 (CEV)~
Heavenly Father, recovery from sexual addiction is super tough for me. Unlike other less demanding 12 step programs this one kicks my butt because it demands something that heretofore I have been unwilling to give…all of me! And frankly Lord, I just don’t know how to live in absolutes. Please help me to one day at a time dedicate my whole being to the pursuit of a meaningful relationship with you so I can be free of addictive obsessive behaviors. For I know that as long as I dedicate my day to loving you and my fellow brothers and sisters, for just that long, I am free. Give me the spirit of obedience you gave to Our Lady, Mother Mary and give me the spirit of self sacrifice and unwavering commitment you gave to your son, my Lord Jesus. Abba Father, I claim these gifts in your holy name. Amen.
