Persons thankful for little things are certain to be the ones with much to be thankful for. ~Frank Clark~
Meditation/Thought for the day
The next time that you begin to feel unhappy or even resentful about the
things that are lacking in your life, stop and make a list of all the things that you do have to be thankful for. If you have started working the Steps heading the list should be your newfound relationship with God, whether it is where you want it to be or not. Just the simple fact that we have a choice today to pursue it in sobriety instead of succumbing to our daily addictive cycle is cause for thanksgiving. List everything, no matter how small or inconsequential it may seem at first thought. By the time you get done, you should recognize your many riches that are far greater than any lack you may have initially perceived. And, as you learn to be joyful in, and thankful for that which you do have, more will be given you besides.
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all you lands! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come before His presence with singing! Enter into His gates with thanksgiving and a thank offering and into His courts with praise! Be thankful and say so to Him, bless and affectionately praise His name! For the Lord is good; His mercy and loving-kindness are everlasting, His faithfulness and truth endure to all generations. ~Psalm 100:1-5 (Amp)~
Rejoice in the Lord always [delight, gladden yourselves in Him]; again I say, Rejoice! Let all men know and perceive and recognize your unselfishness (your considerateness, your forbearing spirit). The Lord is near [He is coming soon]. Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God. And God’s peace [shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace] which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. ~Philippians 4:4-7 (Amp)~
Heavenly Father, in praise I come to you this morning acknowledging your power over all things. You are indeed Master of the Universe. I confess that I still act up as I did as a little boy and fret and become totally self centered when I don’t get the things I want. Father God, forgive me for being so trite. With your help I resolve to sin no more in this childish way. I thank you today for everything good in my life because I know You are the source of everything that is good in my life. I want to thank you today for my fishing tackle or my golf clubs or (pick something small that brings you joy) or my television. (We must begin to acknowledge His good and varied works in our lives) I ask you today to help me stay in the now and acknowledge all throughout the day your presence and works in my life, even in the slightest of things so I may come to learn how to be grateful and live life gratefully. In your holy name I pray. Amen.
